Today the city is considered one of the finest examples of urban planning in Latin America. The streets are lined with workshops of artists and craftsmen. Churches, convents and mansions recapture the glory of a city that was the capital of a Spanish colony for over 200 years. The designs are a reflection of tastes prevalent at the time. Around the Plaza Mayor (the Main Square) the principal church and governmental buildings were erected: The Cathedral, The Palace of the Captains Generals and the City Hall. On our tour we will also visit the remains of a former convent. After our tour we continue our ride through the Guatemalan Highland to Panajachel. Once we arrive in Panajachel, directly situated at the shores of Lake Atitlan, you can enjoy an evening stroll along the shore, where “diamond splatters dance across the water”, fertile hills dot the landscape with colour and, looming over everything, are three majestic volcanoes.Overnight at Porta Hotel del Lago, Panajachel
