Itinerary

San Cristobal de las Casas - Lagos de Montebello - Rio Lacantum - Yaxchilan - Bonampak - Palenque - Misol Ha - San Cristobal de las Casas

Trip details

Day 1 Lagos de Montebello

We will leave early to visit Chinkultic and the Montebellos Lakes. After that we will move on to the Ixcan river in the Lacandon Jungle, here we will board kayaks and row for an hour to arrive at the "Ixcan" Campsite where we will sleep in the jungle interior. (Lunch, dinner)

Day 2 Rio Lacantum

We will begin to row at 10 am along the Lacantum river. After two hours we will visit a small archaeological site that is found just inside the jungle and doesn`t have a name. We will finish in the ejido Chajul and will make a trip to the lacandona community to get into the deep jungle in the "Lacanjá River" Campsite. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 3 Yaxchilan

We leave early in a Van to reach the Frontera Corozal from where we will take a motor boat along the most voluminous body of water in Mexico: The river Usumacinta, until we reach the lost city of Yaxchilan. Yaxchilan is one of the most amazing sites in Chiapas, its temples rise amidst the jungle. We will sleep at the "Lacanjá River" campsite. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 4 Bonampak - Rafting Rio Lacanja

In the morning we will visit the archaeological site Bonampak which means "painted walls". It is famous for its murals which are the most conserved and important of the classical Maya. Afterwards we will return to the campsite to begin our rafting journey along the Lacanjá river. The first part of the river is a series of falls that last approximately 1 hour. There are small falls (less than 1 meter) and larger class III falls (maximum 2.50 meters high). After this we will row an hour more until we reach the archaeological site, Lacanjá which is approximately 15 minutes from the river into the jungle. We will then visit the Moctuniha waterfalls where we will swim and eat lunch. We will return to the campsite hiking through the thick jungle. We will sleep at the Lacanjá river campsite. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 5 Palenque - Agua Azul - San Cristobal de las Casas

We will leave early for Palenque to visit one of the most important Mayan cities. After this we will return to San Cristóbal, on the way we will visit the Misol-ha and the Agua Azul waterfalls.
